Upon successfully completing the ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Business and Management, you will receive an accredited qualification equivalent to a higher diploma. Entry requirement

  • You must be 18 years and over
  • Prior study in business, management or related subjects at level 4 or above
  • A level 4 qualification, such as Extended Diploma in Business and Management / Diploma in Business and Administrative ManagementOther equivalent international qualifications
  • May have relevant work experience

Business Organisations in a Global Context

(Level 5, 15 Credit). Mandatory.

This unit develops learners understanding of the issues organisations face operating within a global context. This understanding will allow learners to review the issues currently impacting on business organisations.
Research Project

(Level 5, 15 Credit). Mandatory.

The aim of this unit is to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required to produce a research question and carry out independent research using appropriate research techniques.
People management

(Level 5, 15 Credit). Mandatory.

This unit will enable learners to understand how to manage individuals and teams within an organisation.
Finance for Managers

(Level 5, 15 Credit). Mandatory.

The unit aims to equip learners with the knowledge and understanding of the sources and use of finance in organisations and how to evaluate and interpret financial data.

Managing Communication (Level 5, 15 Credit). Optional. This unit aims to develop knowledge and understanding of communication within and between organisations.
Marketing Principles and Practice

(Level 5, 15 Credit). Optional.

To develop knowledge and understanding of general marketing principles and their application in business.
Manage Sustainability in an Organisation.

(Level 5, 15 Credit). Optional.

This unit will enable learners to acquire the knowledge and understanding of sustainability, as it relates to organisations. This includes the legal and regulatory requirements and how to achieve relevant quality standards.
Small Business Enterprise (Level 5, 15 Credit). Optional. To provide the learner with an understanding of the importance of small business enterprises in today’s business environment.
Planning and New Business Venture

(Level 5, 15 Credit). Optional.

Learners will develop an understanding of business types and the factors that determine the success or otherwise of a new business venture.
 Business Law

(Level 5, 15 Credit). Optional.

This unit aims to enable learners to develop knowledge and understanding of some of the main aspects of business law which impact on organisations.
Operations Management

(Level 5, 15 Credit). Optional.

Learners will gain an understanding of the operations function in terms of its impact on business success, the tools and techniques that enable managers to achieve business success and the ethical consideration faced in terms of the supply chain.
Information for Strategic Decision Making

(Level 5, 15 Credit). Optional.

This unit will provide the learner with an understanding of the role, value and sources of information needed to make strategic decisions. Learners will also gain an understanding of how this information is gathered and used.
Organisational Analysis and Change

(Level 5, 15 Credit). Optional.

The aim of this unit is to enable learners to understand the range of performance measures needed to analyse and determine organisational performance, and the change processes that can then be used to improve organisational performance.
Financial Systems and Auditing (Level 5, 15 Credit). Optional. Learners will develop an understanding of the management of financial accounting systems and the reporting processes required when conducting an audit.
Business Ethics

(Level 5, 15 Credit). Optional.

This unit will enable the learner to develop knowledge and understanding of business ethics and the effects ethics can have on organisations, including planning and the management of their goals and activities.

 

Assessment methods 
In order to successfully complete this course, a learner MUST complete 4 mandatory units and 4 optional units totaling 120 credits, to gain the ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Business and Management. This course will be graded as follows: Pass, Merit and Distinction.

A range of assessment tools will be used, and this might include assessment through:

  • A research activity resulting in the compilation of a report
  • An academic paper or article for publication
  • The compilation of a case study
  • A set project completed for an employer (also known as an ‘employer-engagement’ activity)
  • The production of a portfolio of evidence relating to a particular unit

Certification and awarding body

Upon a successful completion of this programme as stipulated by ATHE, you will be awarded ‘the ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Business and Management’. Awards for Training and Higher Education (ATHE) is a global awarding organisation, regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual).

Progression and profession pathways

Upon a successful completion this course, you will gain an accredited qualification that will provide the pathway to enter a Bachelors’ Degree in the second or third year in several recognised Universities in the UK. You can progress to the following.
